Southern Marine Shiplift Pty Ltd was formed in 1997 by Peninsula
Searoad Transport and Cummins Engine Co. to purchase the Syncrolift at
Launceston from the Tasmanian Government.
Southern Marine Shiplift's Syncrolift has a lifting platform 60 metres long
and 18 metres wide carrying a maximum displacement barge weight of 3100
tonnes. Used regularly for ship repairs and launching since its
installation in 1981, the Shiplift is powered by 16 synchronised winches,
each with a lifting capacity of 244 tonnes.
Major
upgrades to the precinct have been completed.
Our aim is
to provide improved productivity, competitive prices and faster turnaround
without industrial disputes, consequential to the accessibility benefits of
the Syncrolift Platform which allows the use of scissor and boom lifts, and
a skilled and reliable workforce, resulting in repeat clientele for
the Company & satisfied Clients.
We provide a clean, professionally run Shipyard, with first
quality facilities and equipment capable of handling all vessels, away from
the saltwater environment.
Our permanent workforce is enhanced by utilising highly skilled businesses
from Launceston and Statewide for subcontract labour, as well as a
substantial file of competent tradesmen and labourers used regularly for
casual positions.
Subcontract labour skilled in marine work includes boilermakers, marine
fitters, shipwrights, electricians, riggers, tank cleaners, general labour
and specialised teams for the maintenance of Cummins Diesel, Detroit
Diesel, Caterpillar, Daihatsu and a wide range of large slow speed marine
diesel engines, gearboxes and CPP control gear, bowthrusters and all types
of stern drive units.
